Paul Feenstra joined ITS America in June 2008 and serves as Vice President of Government and Public Affairs, managing the organization’s Congressional and government affairs program as well as legislative strategy, media relations, stakeholder outreach, and general communications.
Paul previously served as policy advisor to U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters, where he advised the Secretary on surface transportation policy, coordinated strategic initiatives with senior U.S. DOT and White House officials, and was the Secretary’s liaison to six of the Department’s ten modal administrations including the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
While at U.S. DOT, Paul also served as one of four White House appointees to the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, where he was Director of Governmental, International and Public Affairs and was instrumental in the early formation and management of the new agency charged with coordinating over $1 billion in transportation research and technology programs.
Paul’s career also includes serving as the Communications Director for U.S. Congressman John Peterson (PA-05), a member of the House Appropriations and Resources Committees, and as Deputy Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (PA) through the Senator’s first re-election and successful campaign to become the third ranking Republican leader in the U.S. Senate. He has also worked on numerous political campaigns including the Bush-Cheney 2004 re-election where he served as a regional media spokesman for the 72-hour get-out-the-vote campaign.
Paul holds a Masters degree in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University and a Bachelors degree in Finance and Business Management from the Pennsylvania State University. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the U.S. DOT Secretary’s Award for Best Strategic Communications, Best Story Idea, and Campaign Teamwork.
